                  In the 12th episode of the first season of The AndyGriffith Show, and others, we spotted something very interesting on a shelf in Floyd’s Barber Shop. How in the world did John Wayne cast and crew mugs, from Flying Leathernecks end up on the set of one of America’s favorite shows of all time! The fact is, Flying Leathernecks was the only movie in which these mugs actually appeared. It was after seeing them as props in the movie, that Duke got the idea to have them made to give to the cast and crew after the movie wrapped. But what happened to the ones that were used in the movie? As it turns out, RKO’s studio facilities which made the Flying Leathernecks, was purchased by DesiLu Productions in 1957.  We would guess the mugs were part of this deal and as Desilu Productions went on to be where the Andy Griffith Show was filmed… there you have it.   So if you want the most obscure, impossible tv/movie trivia question, see if anyone knows the connection between Flying Leathernecks and The Andy Griffith Show.
